A Saskatchewan high school teacher has been charged with four counts of professional misconduct.

In a formal complaint filed with the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory board (SPTRB), Martina Cain is alleged to be guilty of professional misconduct in incidences that took place between January 1986 and June 1989.

Within the ‘Notice of Hearing of Formal Complaint’  found on the SPTRB website, Cain is accused of having a student sleep in her bed on multiple occasions.

The complaint stated that Cain allowed the student to stay at her apartment for multiple reasons including when she was in an argument with her parents, when the students parents were out of town, or for the purpose of being on time for school and basketball practice.

“She would stay over to sleep in your bed with you at your apartment. The sleepovers occurred on average once every two months for a three-year period for at least 18 sleepovers,” the complaint stated.

The complaint also noted that Cain did offer the student the floor of the guest room or to sleep in the same bed as her. The formal complaint says the student choose to sleep in the same bed as Cain.

Another incident alleges Cain encouraged the same student to steal a tray from an A&W Restaurant while the basketball team was playing an away game.

In a third alleged incident, Cain who was the high school basketball coach at the time, allegedly made female students play strip basketball.

“Some students lost their shorts and their bras. One bra was thrown up and was hanging from the basketball hoop,” the formal complaint read.

In the fourth and final incident noted in the complaint, Cain allegedly told the female student to undress before getting in a hot tub with her and another adult female.

“When student A entered the bathroom where the hot tub was located wearing a bathing suit, you told her to remove the bathing suit before entering the hot tub. As a result Student A removed her bathing suit before entering the hot tub,” the complaint stated.

In 2015, Cain was principal at the Churchhill Community High School in La Ronge, but it is not clear which school she was teaching at during the time of the alleged incidents.
