A man in his 20s was taken to hospital in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle while walking in the Alberta Avenue neighbourhood early Thursday morning.

Edmonton police were called to the area of 95 Street and 113 Avenue at around 7:15 a.m.

Officers believe the man was walking in the middle of the road when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

“It doesn’t appear that alcohol is involved with the driver, speed doesn’t appear to be a factor,” Const. Darren Sunley with the EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit, said.

“At the time, the lighting conditions – it was dark… It appears that it might have been a factor with regards to the event here,” he continued. “The pedestrian was wearing really dark clothing in the middle of the roadway.”
