In an effort to reduce traffic over the summer, the town proposed changing the configuration of the road to a one-way street heading north, while the southbound lanes were converted into a bike path.
Cyclists were thrilled to hear the bike lane was there to stay.
Pedestrians who often walk along the path, like Claire Morin, prized it for the stunning views of the Saint Lawrence River.
Residents living on Duhamel Road told Global News it creates a commuting headache because they have to take a circular route home.
They feel that the town didn’t consult them before making the change.
According to Pincourt assistant director general Étienne Bergevin, the town did hold consultations and there were more residents in attendance that supported the change, than those who didn’t.
Petitions are rumoured to be circulating to change the road to allow traffic flow it both directions.
Currently, the one-way sector starts at Cardinal-Léger Boulevard and ends at Monseigneur-Langlois Avenue.
Despite criticism, Pincourt plans to extend the configuration to Highway 20 by 2018.
