A collision involving a tractor trailer led to the closure of Highway 1 near Bridal Falls in both directions on Monday morning.
Officials said the tractor trailer lost its brakes and jack knifed; no other vehicles were involved.
There were no injuries, and traffic was diverted on Highway 1 for the safety of the travelling public, according to RCMP.
The highway closure is one kilometre east of Highway 9.
According to Drive B.C., a detour is in effect at Highway 9 as well as a westbound detour at Exit 170 Flood Hope Road.
