Winnipeg — If you haven’t licensed your dog or cat yet, the city is offering you a chance to get one without paying a penalty.
The city is putting on a pet license “amnesty campaign” until Sept. 30, 2016, which gives non-licenced pet owners the opportunity to purchase one, without getting slapped with a fine for not already doing so.
“We would like to encourage dog and cat owners who have never licenced their pets to take this opportunity to purchase a licence, available in a number of convenient ways,” the city said in a media release sent Monday.

All dogs and cats older than six months need a license. Annual licence fees for spayed and neutered pets are only $15 for cats and $30 for dogs ($50 for intact cats and $65 for intact dogs).
Starting October 1, if you don’t have one, you will have to pay a $250 fine.
