A popular botanical garden in downtown Calgary will be shutting down for several months so repairs can be completed.

Devonian Gardens is scheduled to close on July 18, after the Calgary Stampede.

The decision to temporarily shutter the public park was made by both the City of Calgary and the property managers for The CORE retail complex, where the park is located.

“We have some warranty issues in our planter beds,” manager of Capital Development for Calgary Parks, Doug Marter, said. “Additionally, The CORE has some life cycle and maintenance work that needs to be completed.

“We have opted for a full closure to allow us to work more quickly and nimbly rather than a longer partial closure through the winter.”

The city said it will be honouring events booked in the park, as there is no work planned on the east side where private events are held.
