WINNIPEG — If your gas tank is running low, it’s going to cost you most to fill up Wednesday morning.

The average gas prices around the city are sitting just at 103.8 cents a litre, according to GasBuddy.com.  That’s around a six cent litre jump from Tuesday. One month ago gas prices average around 93.1 cents a litre.

The last time the prices were over a dollar a litre in Winnipeg, was in November 2015, according to winnipeggasprices.com.

GasBuddy.com’s Dan McTeague explained why Winnipeggers are seeing the higher prices.

“This is really a premium a lot of which we are paying for as a result of concern by speculators and traders last week that the Fort McMurray fires might knock out some of the oil production, and therefore the ability to produce gasoline,” he said.

He said Winnipeg still has some of the lowest gas prices in Canada.

McTeague predicts gas prices could reach 110 cents this summer.
