WINNIPEG — Winnipeg city councillors are packing up and temporarily leaving their workplace Wednesday during renovations.
The city said the council building is long overdue for redevelopment work, which is needed to bring it up to the current safety system and code requirements.
The councillors won’t be heading too far. They are being relocated to the administration building, which is located directly across the courtyard from the council building.
The relocation is expected to last a year and cost $4.1 million.
The city said the building is over 50-years-old, and was designated a heritage building in January 2015. Repairs will be made to the roof, windows and stone facade.
In mid-July, the Mayor Brian Bowman and his staff will also be moving into administration building until next spring.
