A Saskatoon group is hoping social media will help them spread the word on sexual violence. The Saskatoon Sexual Assault and Information Centre launched the new campaign “who will you help” on Monday.
It’s part of sexual assault awareness week.
The centre’s executive director Faye Davis says the province has a higher rate of violence against women, however points out that the majority of cases go unreported.
“People aren’t going to believe them, that their personal life is going to have to be exposed to the world, that they’re going to have to undergo a lot of questioning,” said Davis.
“There’s still a lot of shame and guilt surrounding sexual assault so it’s difficult for women to talk about it and then to go through a criminal justice process is a very, very hard task.”

The group will also mark the week with a documentary showing at the Roxy Theatre Wednesday night.
The Hunting Ground is a documentary on campus sexual assault in the United States that was short-listed in the Oscar documentary feature category.
The viewing will be followed by a panel discussion.
