Motorcyclist jumps off bike to avoid accident

KELOWNA — A motorcyclist had quite the scare this morning in Kelowna.

Jesse Collis had to jump off his bike to avoid being hit by the van behind him.

Collis said he was slowing to stop for traffic on Highway 97 between Ethel and Richter Streets.

“I looked behind me, luckily I was able to jump off in time,” Jesse Colliss. “I had no choice…he was going too fast.”

A third vehicle, an SUV, following behind the van caused the crash according to police.

“It appears from the [SUV] collided with the rear of [the] van, which collided with the rear of a Harley motorcycle,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey.

The woman driving the SUV was issued a $109 fine for following too closely.

The man driving the van was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Collis had some scrapes on his knees, but was otherwise uninjured.

The woman and young boy in the SUV were both unharmed.
