Easter trees: DIY inspiration for an old tradition seeing new life

It’s not just Christmas that has families decorating a tree. Easter trees seem to be more popular than ever.

Etsy is selling them, as is eBay. Pinterest has plenty of inspiration, though, for those who want to make their own.

The trend appears to have taken root in Germany. One elderly couple there became famous for its epic Easter tree, which started with just 18 egg ornaments in 1965 and grew to include 10,000 uniquely-crafted ones. It would apparently take two weeks each year for Christa and Volker Kraft to hang them all from the branches.

Unfortunately, the pair retired the 50-year tradition last year. Climbing the ladder had reportedly become too arduous.

But their tradition lives on in the homes of many North Americans. Here are some of the prettiest Easter trees we could find on Instagram:
