OLIVER — If you’re a Telus customer in Oliver and are experiencing some cell phone signal issues, it’s likely because a Telus wireless site serving the town has been vandalized.
It happened last Thursday and it hasn’t been determined how many people were involved in causing the damage to the site, according to Telus spokesperson Liz Sauvé.
The damage has caused wireless service to degrade in some parts of Oliver and the surrounding area, she says.
“Our team responded immediately. However, the site is only accessible by helicopter and the damage is extensive, requiring specialized equipment to address, so it will take some time for us to fully restore service,” said Sauvé in a statement.
Sauvé says the company is unable to determine how many customers are affected by what she calls an extremely rare situation for the service provider.
“Currently, some customers are picking up signals from nearby towers and may not have experienced much change in their service, while others may be experiencing degraded or intermitted service,” said Sauvé.
The wireless site is expected to be repaired in the next few days. RCMP are investigating.
