The City of Fredericton says it exceeded its snow-clearing budget for 2015 by almost $100,000.

The total amount allocated to snow removal for 2015 was just north of $2.5 million, which the city exceeded by $96,141 due to overtime and fuel-consumption costs.

“We had heavy snowfall during the first quarter of 2015, with the last part of the year being average,” Coun. Bruce Grandy, chair of the city’s finance and administration committee, said in a news release. “Thankfully, overall fuel pricing and savings in materials offset the additional snow control costs for the year.”

The total budget exceeded overtime allowances by $107,308 and fuel allowances by $23,656. Various savings totalling $34,822 meant the final budget was over by 3.8 per cent.

Grandy said the latest figures are good news when compared to the previous year’s budget, which was over by $360,000.

“Given the fluctuations in the weather we have experienced I believe we are on a good track for 2016,” he said.
