WINNIPEG – Just four teams remain in the hunt for the provincial men’s curling championship after the conclusion of the Saturday afternoon draw at the Selkirk Recreation Complex. There haven’t been many upsets this week and the top seeds continued to march along in the second draw of the playoff round.

2nd seed and five-time finalist Mike McEwen needed only seven ends to defeat the 3rd seeded William Lyburn rink. McEwen scored three in the seventh end to secure a 7-3 victory.

In the other qualifier game defending champion Reid Carruthers continued his quest for a second straight crown with a tight 4-3 win over the 5th seeded Alex Forrest team from East St. Paul. Carruthers needed a single point with last rock in the 10th end to break a 3-3 deadlock.

Carruthers will face McEwen in the 1 vs 2 Page Playoff game at 6:00pm with the winner to advance directly to Sunday’s championship game.
