KELOWNA – The jobless rate in Kelowna spiked strongly upwards in December.
Statistic Canada reports it jumped almost a full percentage point from 6.8 to 7.6 per cent.

The increase is attributed to more people joining the job market seeking work.
The unemployment situation in the province was stable, dropping in December to 6.6 per cent from 6.7 per cent.
Alberta continues to be hard hit by the collapse of oil prices, with nearly 22,000 full-time jobs lost in January.
