WINNIPEG — A mother and her four-year-old daughter are recovering in hospital after spending a frigid night stranded on the side of the road following a crash near Killarney, Manitoba.

On Sunday evening 26-year-old Kristen Hiebert was travelling with her daughter Avery, when her vehicle slid off a rural road and tumbled into a ditch.

The temperature dipped below -20 C that night so Hiebert crawled to her daughter and covered her to keep her warm as they waited for help.

Many cars drove by, but no one one pulled over to help them.

“It is now morning, the sun is up and mom and daughter have spent the night exposed to the elements, injured, dehydrated and traumatized,” wrote Hiebert’s friend on a GoFundMe page.

In the morning, Hiebert crawled towards the road and signalled for help.  She was suffering from extreme pain with broken arms, neck, ribs, and a leg. Her feet were black from being exposed to the cold temperatures, as she lost her shoes right after the crash.
