EDMONTON – If you’re planning to overthrow a government, perhaps it’s best to brush up on your basic terminology.
According to the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, a coup d’etat is “a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.”
Unfortunately some Albertans had difficulty spelling the French term.
A screen capture of a conversation on the Global Edmonton Facebook page recently showed up online, in which one person questioned if Albertans should rise up and overthrow the government in a “kudatah.”
The comments were made on Nov. 30, 2015, on a post about one of the many protests at the Alberta Legislature over the controversial Bill 6 farm legislation.
A Reddit user posted the screencap on the /r/Canada sub Tuesday night.
The incorrect spelling, perhaps done phonetically, sparked a flurry of comments and memes on social media.
