Man groped on CTrain likely targeted due to his special needs: police

CALGARY – Calgary police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect in connection with a CTrain groping incident Sunday afternoon.

The 31-year-old male victim is developmentally delayed, and investigators believe that he was targeted because of that.

The victim boarded an eastbound train at City Hall at around 3:10 p.m. Dec. 27. It appears he was followed by an unknown man. Police said the man sat next to the victim and began to grope him once the train was moving. He also made sexually explicit comments to the victim, according to police.

The suspect got off the train at the Max Bell station and the victim continued on to another stop.

The victim told a family member about the incident on Monday.

Police have been working with Calgary Transit and have secured CCTV footage. They are describing the suspect as having brown skin with dark hair. He is approximately 35 to 45 years old, and about 5’10” tall. At the time of the assault the suspect was wearing a dark-coloured touque, dark-coloured hoodie, blue jeans, black hiking shoes and a dark grey or dark blue winter jacket with white trim down the sleeves and across the chest and back.
