HALIFAX – The friend of a young man killed by a vehicle overnight in Halifax describes him “a very caring and intuitive human.”
The victim, a 24-year-old man, was struck by a truck in the parking lot of the Walmart on Mumford Road shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. He died on scene.
The identity of the victim has not been released by police pending notification of family. One of his close friends says his passing is tragic and that the man’s family and friends are in complete shock.
“He could sense when someone was having a hard time and would never hesitate to try and help by lending an ear and a shoulder to cry on,” one friend told Global News Wednesday.
“He was just an amazing person and this is a horrible way to part with him.”
The young man was hit by a truck driven by a 52-year-old man. The driver was arrested at the scene and he remains in police custody.
Investigators say they’ve ruled out alcohol as a factor in the collision, but not distracted driving.
At this point, police will not say what, if any charges will be laid in the case.
Const. Dianne Woodworth says the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is helping officers in the case.
When asked if that was an unusual step for a pedestrian-vehicle accident ingestigation, Woodworth said it is not typical.
