CALGARY – Police have released the identity of a 26-year-old Calgary man killed in a brazen daytime shooting in the community of Monterey Park on Sunday.

Police were called to the 100 block of Del Ray Road N.E. at about 2:20 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, officers discovered one man in medical distress in an alley; he succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

On Tuesday, police announced the victim had been identified as Hussein Merhi.

Investigators believe Merhi had become involved in an altercation in the alley with at least one person before he was killed.

“There is no indication this homicide is linked to any others in the city,” said police in a news release.
