WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Jets forward Blake Wheeler had to leave practice on Friday after getting hit by a puck in the head from a Dustin Byfuglien wrist shot.

“You know he got off the ice under his own power” head coach Paul Maurice said. “and he was coherent so he’s gonna get checked out and we won’t know until this afternoon or tomorrow how he feels.”

Wheeler, 29, has been one of the Jets most durable players the past four plus season and has missed only five games over that span. The Jets can’t afford to lose their top point getter with Wheeler leading the team with 21 points including eight goals and three assists.

The Jets homestand continues on Saturday against the Arizona Coyotes.
