10-year-old boy with liver disease helps design Olympic skier’s helmet

CALGARY – Ten-year-old Dylan Kwan has been going through a fierce battle with a liver disease called biliary atresia since he was eight weeks old.

Dylan was asked by the “Helmets for Heroes” program to help design a ski racing helmet for Olympic medalist Jan Hudec. Hudec is known as the panda, and Wednesday in Calgary, Dylan presented the helmet, with its fierce panda theme, to his ski racing hero.

The helmet, designed by Dylan and artist Miss Anna Hall, will be used this weekend at a Canadian Liver Foundation Gala. It will be auctioned off and proceeds will go towards research of pediatric liver disease. The final weekend of November, Dylan will be on hand to watch Hudec wear the helmet in competition when he takes on the world at the Alpine Ski World Cup at Lake Louise.
