WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers closed the book on the 2015 season on Friday as General Manager Kyle Walters made his year end address.

“We all are frustrated. The fans, the organization, everybody is,” Walters said.

There’s plenty of disappointment to go around after the Bombers missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season and for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. Walters pointed directly to the injury to Drew Willy for the team’s failures in 2015.

“I think what the season exposed was particularly with the three teams that didn’t make the playoffs, when you have instability or injuries at the quarterback position and you’re not deep enough organizationally to overcome those and figure out ways to win you’re exposed and we were,” Walters said.

The result was a 5-13 season and Walters said it was his decision to bring back Mike O’Shea for a third campaign. There are plenty of other issues to address especially on offence.

“I think we’ve made strides improving our talent but we have along way to go,” Walters said. “Top priority right now is hiring an offensive staff. so That will be the top priority. We have our list of free agents that we’ll need to address and evaluate and see what which ones we’re going to put offers to.”

It’s a lengthy list of free agents that includes starters like defensive back Demond Washington, receiver Nick Moore and running back Cameron Marshall but they’ll also have to look outside the organization.

“We plan on being aggressive in free agency and making necessary changes to continue to improve this team.”
