HALIFAX – A tentative agreement has been reached between government and civil servants represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
The NSGEU said in a statement the agreement includes a four-year wage settlement with all concessions off the table, with the exception of the Public Service Award.
NSGEU represents roughly 7,600 civil servants in the province.
The union says members identified job security was the most critical issue for them. The NSGEU Civil Service Bargaining Unit Negotiating Committee says the deal protects that security, and is recommending members accept the offer, although it also says the deal is, “far from acceptable.”
Premier Stephen McNeil said in a statement, “I am pleased our meaningful discussions at the table have resulted in a tentative agreement that stays within our fiscal plan.”
The last agreement with civil servants expired March 31.
Ratification votes will be held in few weeks’ time.
