WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Rifles named Geordie Wilson their new head coach. He takes over from Jason Park who was relieved of his duties after just one season on the job that saw the Rifles finish with a 4-4 record.
Wilson has a lengthy football resume which includes head coach of the Tec Voc Hornets where he’s worked as a teacher for the past 23 years. He coached various age levels with the Charleswood Broncos for eight years and was an assistant with both the Sisler Spartans and Oak Park Raiders.
“We are extremely excited to have Geordie taking the reins of the team,” said club president Todd Wilson through a media release. “Geordie has competed as a player or coach in top Manitoba programs at the high school, junior and university levels. Over the years, we have watched Geordie motivate his players to work hard to win championships, graduate and move on to become outstanding members of their respective communities. This matches well with our mission for Rifles players.”
Geordie Wilson also played with both the Manitoba Bisons and the St. Vital Mustangs.
“My family may have careers to pay the bills but our family business has always been football,” Geordie said. “I look forward to doing my part to help bring a national junior championship to the City of Winnipeg and the Rifle organization.”
The Rifles also announced Jeff Ready will return as offensive coordinator and Craig Bachynski will take over the role as defensive coordinator. Bachynski is the head coach of the St. Vital Mustangs who recently won the Football Manitoba Midget Championship.
