WINNIPEG — Second place in Canada West will be on the line on Saturday afternoon when the Manitoba Bisons close out the regular season against the UBC Thunderbirds (5-2) at Griffiths Stadium.

The Bisons (5-2) are ranked eighth in the country and will be looking to extend their four game winning streak. The winner will claim second place in Canada West and will get a home playoff game next week in the conference semifinals.  It’ll be the first of two straight games between the two schools with the Bisons and Thunderbirds guaranteed to face each other again in the November 7 semifinal.

“Last game what they did, they didn’t do that much to hurt us,” Bisons defensive lineman David Onyemata said. “It was just little plays here and there that just pretty much hurt us there. But I think we’re going to go there with a certain mindset to win the game and just work on things we didn’t do well the last game.”

A difficult start to the Herd’s schedule saw them lose two of their first three games. But they’ve bounced back to win four straight and are peaking at the perfect time with the playoffs just around the corner.

“I think going into the playoffs we’re really gelling,” Bisons assistant coach Chris Clement said. “Kinda reminds me of last year when we sorta started clicking. You know offense came together week seven, defense put it together week eight and we just rolled from there. So I think we can put together another run.”

You can watch the game live on Shaw-TV starting at 3 p.m. central time.
