REGINA – Southern Saskatchewan residents were cleaning up Monday morning after heavy wind gusts wreaked havoc on Sunday.
Environment Canada issued a wind warning early Sunday, predicting consistent wind speeds of 60 kilometres per hour and gusts reaching 90 km/h. By the evening, peak gusts topped 100 kilometres per hour in nine communities, with the strongest topping out at 120 km/h in Swift Current.
- Swift Current 124 km/h
- Estevan 113 km/h
- Leader 109 km/h
- Mankota/Coronach 106 km/h
- Assiniboia 104 km/h
- Moose Jaw/Lucky Lake/Bratt’s Lake 100 km/h
The bulk of the damage came in communities in the southwest part of the province, but the wind even toppled tree branches and knocked out power in parts of Regina.
