Public-sector workers plan strike action

QUEBEC CITY – The province of Quebec may be in for more strikes.

Public-sector workers are gearing up for a series of rotating strikes as early as the end of October.

French-language teachers represented by the Independent Teachers Federation will be holding three consecutive strike days later this month.

Not to mention the Common Front of public sector workers, representing over 400,000 health and education workers, will also hold a three-day strike at the start of December.

Treasury Board President Martin Coiteux said he would prefer it if there were no strikes at all.

“Of course I would prefer not to have rotating strikes,” he said.

“I would prefer the unions to use a strategy that would not disrupt public services. This is what I think should be appropriate, now they have their own strategies.”

There are several disagreements between the provincial government and unionized workers, including the issue of salaries.
