Did Taylor Swift’s ‘curse’ strike the Blue Jays?

The Blue Jays wrapped up their regular season with a disappointing drubbing at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday.

It was a must-win game if the Jays wanted a shot at keeping home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but instead, was a 12-3 loss to a sub-500 team.

The final game flub had hordes of angry fans searching for answers and laying blame.

Was it the choice to start underperforming pitcher Mark Beuhrle in pursuit of a personal record? Some uncharacteristic infield errors? A post-playoff-clinch hangover?

Possibly. But some fans had another explanation.

Wait, say what?

Yes, musical superstar Taylor Swift is taking flak for an apparent curse that’s afflicted four big-league baseball teams this season.

Her 1989 world tour hit Toronto this past weekend, and she earned some hometown cheers by giving the Jays a shout-out during her rendition of Blank Space.

After the show, the Jays then finished the season 0-2, and lost home-field advantage to American League leaders Kansas City.

But one team doesn’t amount to a curse. So how about four?

It started in Washington this past July. Swift played two nights and the Nationals, who were 48-39 with a two-game lead atop the National League East, then went 35-40 and missed the playoffs.

On top of that, the first home game after the concert was postponed when the lights shorted out at Nationals Park. Nats pitcher Max Scherzer kicked off the blame game with a tongue-in-cheek tweet.

And the so-called curse continued.

Swift’s 1989 tour also visited both Tampa and Texas, but she played the local NFL stadiums instead of baseball parks.

Still, it’s just a coincidence, right?

The Jays kick off their playoff series versus Texas on Thursday. Hopefully they can shake it off.
