TORONTO – Mayor John Tory is taking a trip to London, England in October to meet with senior government officials and business leaders.
The mayor announced his plans Friday morning in a press release. While on the trip, he will look at “major public transit and infrastructure initiatives, and explores opportunities in the financial services and tech sector.”
Tory tweeted he was looking forward to meeting the London Mayor Boris Johnson
“During his tenure, Mayor Johnson has overseen record investment in London’s transportation networks, and seen significant improvements in commute times. He has focused on jobs and growth, investment in road and rail infrastructure, and support for financial services and the tech sector, as well as championing new separated cycling routes through the city,” the press release said.
While visiting London, Tory plans on looking at the Crossrail which served as the inspiration for Toronto’s SmartTrack plan.
He will also visit the business district Canary Warf and draw possible parallels for Toronto’s Port Lands development and is planning to meet with UK businesses that could invest in Toronto operations.
The Toronto mayor will also be the keynote speaker at Canada UK Chamber of Commerce reception.
This isn’t the first business trip abroad Tory has taken since becoming Toronto Mayor.
In March 2015, the Mayor visited Austin, Texas for a music business mission where he met with Mayor Steve Adler and attended South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival.
