During the September meeting of Saskatoon city council, a decision on whether to ban smoking in public outdoor spaces was pushed until next month, leaving more time to hear from agencies such as the Canadian Cancer Society.
The ban, which would be implemented Jan. 1, 2016, would include parks, playgrounds, sports fields and public squares.
Similar outdoor smoking bans are already in place for Warman and Martensville, as well as larger cities such as Winnipeg and Toronto.
In August, the city voted to ban electronic cigarettes in city-owned buildings. The plan is to expand this to include all other places where smoking is prohibited.
