OTTAWA – Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau begins his campaign day Wednesday in a Toronto riding that looks set to be an epic battle between his party and the New Democrats.
The morning event is in the new riding of Spadina-Fort York that takes in parts of a riding once held by NDP stalwart Olivia Chow. She is up against her successor, Liberal Adam Vaughan. Imposing 2011 election results on the new constituency suggests the NDP would have won easily, but Vaughan is not seen as a pushover.
From Toronto, Trudeau heads to Edmonton, where both the Liberals and New Democrats believe they have a fighting chance of winning seats on Oct. 19.
NDP Leader Tom Mulcair will remain in Ontario on Wednesday, first making a business friendly announcement in Niagara Falls, a riding that was held by Conservative incumbent and Foreign Affairs Minister Rob Nicholson.

Mulcair then travels to Peterborough to hold an evening rally in a riding once held by former Tory MP Dean Del Mastro, who in June was sentenced to one month in jail for violating the Canada Elections Act.
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper will also campaign in the country’s most populous and vote rich province with a stop in Niagara to make an announcement about payroll taxes.

Harper has repeatedly cast Trudeau and Mulcair as leaders who would hike taxes in order to pay for their spending promises, a move he says would slow job growth.
Green party Leader Elizabeth May is in Vancouver to make a campaign announcement.
And Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe is holding a morning news conference in Montreal to discuss postal delivery and will attend an evening rally in the suburb of Longueuil.
