WINNIPEG — For many people, rappelling down the side of one of Winnipeg’s tallest buildings doesn’t sound too appealing.

However, on August 20th, more than 90 Manitobans will be taking the plunge for charity.

It’s the 11th annual Drop Zone event for SMD Foundation/Easter Seals Manitoba.

It’s one of the charities biggest fundraising events of the year, raising more than $107,000 last year.

The goal this year is to raise at least $150,000.

Jason Fuchs is one of the 93 people taking part in the rappel. For him, he’s doing it for his 3-year-old daughter Presley.

“I want to make sure she has a support community as she gets older,” Fuchs said. “A community that is always there for her.”

Presley has a genetic condition, micro-duplication and micro- deletion of chromosome 21q, which affects her physical and cognitive development permanently throughout life.

Fuchs hit his fundraising goal of $3,000 as of Wednesday morning.

One in six Manitobans has a disability and 47,000 people are helped through the vital programs and services offered by the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities.

The rappel takes place on Thursday August 20th outside 201 Portage Avenue.
