Summary: A sprawling riding dividing northern and southern Ontario, Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock will elect a new MP in 2015.
Boundaries: Part of Ontario’s cottage country, this rural riding is centered around the sprawling municipality of Kawartha Lakes and includes the Victoria region, rural areas of Peterborough, and the southern part of Algonquin Park.
Last Election: Conservative MP Barry Devolin, who is not running for re-election, defeated NDP candidate Lyn Edwards by 37.9 per cent to win his fourth term in this riding.
History: Like many ridings in rural Ontario, this seat went to the Liberal Party from 1993-2004 (when it was known as Victoria-Haliburton) under MP John O’Reilly, but has gone to the PC/Conservative Party otherwise. It was held longest by William C. Scott, who held it from 1965 to 1993.
Demographics: The median age is 48.8, second highest in Ontario. The percentage of people who list English as their first language is 94.1 per cent, also second highest in the province.
