Sask. athletes return after competing at Special Olympics World Games

REGINA – Micheal Qing and Lindsay Kinnear have returned home after competing at the Special Olympics World Summer Games.

The two Saskatchewan athletes had six podium finishes between them at the games in Los Angeles.

Qing won gold in the 4X100M relay and Kinnear won gold in both the 200M race and the 4X400 relay.

It’s not just the athletes who can become be overcome with emotions after achieving their goals.

“I got a little misty seeing Lindsay this morning with her medals,” said Faye Matt, the CEO of special Olympics Saskatchewan.

It was Kinnear’s first time competing at the worlds.

“It’s really a great testament to our volunteer coaches who spend countless hours, all volunteer, dedicating so much of their time to these athletes and this is the great payoff for them.”

There are currently around 1,200 athletes within Special Olympics Saskatchewan and 600 volunteers.
