SASKATOON – Provincial correction officials said 15 inmates were moved to other facilities in Saskatchewan after a disturbance at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre. Justice spokesman Drew Wilby said the facility’s emergency response team was called in to try to calm down the situation on Tuesday night.

Saskatoon police, fire, and ambulance were also called and put on standby.

Wilby says pepper spray was needed to stop the disturbance but said there were no injuries to staff or inmates.

The decision was made to move eight offenders to Regina Provincial Correctional Centre and seven to the Prince Albert Provincial Correctional Centre first thing Wednesday morning.

Last Sunday, two inmates scaled the fence at the centre located in the North Industrial area in a bid for freedom. They were captured a short time later after a short foot pursuit.
