NEAR NARAMATA – A 2.5 hectare fire has sparked north of Naramata.

Fire Chief Tony Trovao says the Naramata Volunteer Fire Department got the call shortly before 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The flames are burning on the east side of Little Tunnel; no homes or structures are being threatened by the wildfire, but Trovao says the concern is about the flames hitting a major power line in the area.

A B.C. Wildfire Service four-person initial attack crew is fighting the fire along with four members of the Naramata Volunteer Fire Department.

Helicopters are dropping retardant on the flames.

The fire was initially estimated at 1.5 hectares and has grown to 2.5 hectares within two hours.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
