Man killed after falling from apartment under construction

Mounties in Coquitlam say a man in his twenties has died after falling from the fourth storey of an apartment building under construction.

It happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday at an apartment complex on Pitt River Road.

Investigators believe the man was hanging out with his friends at the construction site. They were talking to each other when the victim leaned against a temporary railing on a fourth floor balcony. The railing suddenly gave way and the man fell to the ground below.

His friends called for help, but despite attempts to resuscitate the victim, he succumbed to his injuries.

Police are reminding people that construction sites are off limits to those who are not authorized because they are dangerous and consumption of alcohol or drugs while being there can make almost any situation even more dangerous.

Every summer, the Coquitlam RCMP get more of these types of calls and officers are asking anyone who lives near construction sites to call them if they see any suspicious activity, especially after hours.
