Heat wave on the way for large part of Manitoba

Try to stay cool this weekend. Submitted by: Bobbi-Jo Lodewyks

WINNIPEG — Southern and portions of central Manitoba will experience extremely hot weather into next week. Environment Canada issued the special weather statement just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

An upper ridge building over the Prairies is bringing both hot and humid weather to southern and parts of central Manitoba starting Friday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Daytime high temperatures will be 30 C and warmer, that will push humidex values close to 40.

To make matters worse, there won’t be much relief at night with temperatures only dropping into the high teens.

Along with the heat, we can expect unstable conditions that could produce thunderstorms in many regions.

If you will be participating in any outdoor activities make sure you have plenty of liquids on hand to decrease your risk of dehydration.
