HALIFAX – Special Olympics Nova Scotia has put out a call for volunteers for the provincial games that are coming up next month.

Special Olympics NS says they are desperate for volunteers to help out in areas of medical, sports and general help. Megan Eisenor from Special Olympics Nova Scotia said that people can volunteer for a full day, half day, just at lunch time, whenever they are available.

Eisnor said biggest struggle they’re facing is finding medical volunteers who have their St. John Ambulance certification. They need about four more people with their certification throughout the weekend.

The provincial games of the Special Olympics will be happening at Dalhousie and St. Mary’s Universities from July 10-12.

Volunteers are also needed for the following times/events:

  • Friday (Opening Ceremonies) – 10 volunteers – from 3-7 p.m.
  • Saturday (Lunch and dinner) – 5-10 volunteers – various times
  • Sunday (Breakfast and lunch) – 5-10 volunteers – various times

Eisenor said that this year’s events are happening at the same time as other major events, like the Highland Games and the Track & Field Nationals in Edmonton, and many volunteers who would normally come to the Provincial Games are heading there.
