SASKATOON – The property tax deadline is almost here. June 30 is the last day to pay your 2015 Saskatoon property tax before penalties kick in.

Payments by cheque, cash or debit can be made in person at city hall up to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

There are also other ways to make a payment.

Property taxes can be paid at most financial institutions or cheques can be dropped off in one of two boxes at city hall – one outside the main entrance and the other in the main foyer.

Although it may be too late for this option, payments can be made online through your bank’s internet banking options, but that could take up to two business days for the payment to be processed, and some vendors may take even longer.

There are programs available for property owners to make payments throughout the year.

The first is the tax instalment payment plan service. Under this program, property owners can apply to have property taxed paid in monthly instalments by automatic withdrawal from a bank account.

The other is the property tax deferral program for low-income senior citizen homeowners which allows qualified applicants to receive extra financial flexibility to defer all or a portion of the annual municipal and library taxes for the current tax year.

A penalty of 1.25 per cent per month will be applied to any unpaid 2015 taxes after June 30, 2015.
