WINNIPEG – A wealthy Vancouver businessman is fighting to stay in Canada instead of being returned to China.

Mo Yeung Ching has been accused of corruption in China stemming from a property sale more than a decade ago.

His claim for refugee status was rejected and his lawyer is in Federal Court in Winnipeg trying to overturn that decision.

Lawyer David Matas said his client did nothing wrong and only introduced the buyer and seller of the property.

Matas also said the Communist Party in China is pursuing his client for political purposes, and has used torture to get statements from two witnesses.
