Vancouver actor pleads with hit-and-run driver to turn himself in

A Vancouver man who was involved in a hit-and-run last week is pleading with the driver to do the right thing and turn himself in.

Forty-one-year-old Vancouver actor Thai-Hoa Le was riding his 1989 Yamaha FJ600 with his 29-year-old friend in the early morning hours on June 10 when his motorcycle was struck by a car in the intersection of Victoria Drive and East 43rd Avenue.

Le says the car took a sudden left turn, and the driver appears to have hesitated in the middle of a maneuver.

“By that time, it was too late for me to do anything to avoid the collision,” says Le.

Le and his friend flipped over and flew into the air, but he still managed to get up and call 9-1-1.

In the midst of the pain and panic, Le says he noticed the driver trying to move away from the scene.

“I relied that he would, sooner or later, get out of his car.” Le says he was trying to read the car’s licence plate while calling 9-1-1, but when he turned around, he realized the driver disappeared.

Police are now looking for a white Crossover that will have damage to the front passenger side. Le says the driver appeared to be an Asian man, but there are few details beyond that.

Both Le and his friend sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Le suffered multiple bruises and scratches to his knee and shoulder, and had to go into surgery. His friend sustained multiple fractures.

“I think it could have been much worse,” says Le. “We are counting our blessings.”

The couple was riding this 1989 Yamaha FJ600 at the time of the crash, and Le hopes it will jog someone’s memory of the incident. There were witnesses who helped them out after the crash.

Constable Brian Montague with Vancouver police says they are continuing to investigate the incident, but have not made much progress so far.

Le hopes the driver can be located.

“In Canada, we have laws, rights and obligations,” he says. “He should turn himself in to stand up to what he did.”
