TORONTO – Many Toronto commuters were left stranded early Monday as the city’s entire subway service was suspended due to a major “communication problem.”
Just after 6:30 a.m., the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) said all four lines were shut down and a “stop and stay” was ordered while transit officials investigated the cause of the communication issue.
Many commuters took to Twitter to vent their frustrations as tempers began to flare.
The TTC added some confusion to the chaos this morning by tweeting this:
It didn’t go over so well.
Transit spokesman Brad Ross explained the TTC wouldn’t be providing shuttle buses, which are normally dispatched during subway closures, simply because there wasn’t enough buses to replace subways on all transit lines.
Service resumed on all subway lines just after 7:30 a.m.
