HALIFAX – Wildfire fighters from two Maritime provinces are heading to Alberta.

Twenty firefighters from Nova Scotia and two from Prince Edward Island will be in Alberta for 14 days.

Nova Scotia Natural Resources Minister Zach Churchill says other jurisdictions have helped his province before.

The government says 21 of the wildfire fighters will work as a team.

The other person will fill a wildfire management position.

A number of wildfires have been burning in northern Alberta with an evacuation earlier this week affecting nearly 5,000 people around Wabasca, more than 300 kilometres north of Edmonton.
