TORONTO – Environment Canada has ended a tornado warning that was issued earlier Monday for parts of southeastern Ontario.

The weather agency downgraded the tornado warning to a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa, Bancroft, Bon Echo Park, Smith Falls, Lanark and Sharbot Lake. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Peterborough, Prescott, Renfrew and Pembroke areas.

Environment Canada said the severe thunderstorm is capable of producing very strong wind gusts, dime to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

“Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

Environment Canada is asking that the public report severe weather to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or on Twitter using the hashtag #ONStorm.

If you see severe in your part of the province, let us know. Tweet us at @GlobalNewsTO or email NewsTips@globalnews.ca
