Montreal Alouettes sign veteran American punter Ricky Schmitt to one-year deal

MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes signed veteran American kicker Ricky Schmitt to a one-year contract Monday.

Schmitt attended the CFL club’s mini-camp last month in Vero Beach, Fla.

The six-foot-three, 213-pound Schmitt spent last season with the B.C. Lions, averaging 44.5 yard on 139 punts. Schmitt also played two years with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The 29-year-old Virginia native also spent time with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals (2007, 2012), San Francisco 49ers (2008, 2009), Oakland Raiders (2008, 2009), Tennessee Titans (2010) and San Diego Chargers (2011).
