Orphaned bear cubs out of hibernation at Calgary Zoo

Above watch: Another sure sign spring is upon us, the bears at the Calgary Zoo are out of hibernation and fooling around.

CALGARY – Two orphaned bear cubs brought to the Calgary Zoo last summer are out of hibernation and ready for visits from the public.

The cubs, named Teslin (female) and Orson (male), arrived at the zoo in August of 2014 from the Yukon. They were then placed into quarantine until November.

The cubs share a habitat with Manuka, the female ‘white’ black bear, within the black bear habitat in the Canadian Wilds area of the zoo.

“These young bears are showing great social interaction” says Curator Mike Teller. “They romp and play together and have certainly adjusted to their unique personalities.

Teslin was named after Teslin Lake in the Yukon, and Orson is the French spelling of the word bear.
