REGINA – A Carlyle family is convinced Saskatchewan’s hyperbaric chamber needs to stay in a hospital setting after their son nearly died.

15-year-old Delan Robertson’s father found him unconscious Friday due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Robertson was quickly air-lifted from Arcola to Regina and then taken to Moose Jaw, where he underwent three treatments in the hyperbaric chamber.

The equipment is currently at Moose Jaw Union Hospital, the only one between Edmonton and Toronto, but the province has said there’s no room for it at the new regional hospital which will open later this year.

“In a life or death situation you only have moments. And when you have the care that they had at the Moose Jaw hospital at the time, I just can’t imagine having to unhook him from all the machines and get him prepped to go across the city to have his bout in the chamber. You never know how long they have,” said Wade Robertson, Delan’s father.

The day before Delan Robertson became ill, Moose Jaw firefighters went to the Saskatchewan legislature to urge the government to keep the oxygen therapy service in Moose Jaw.
