7 charged with murder in death of northern Saskatchewan teen

PELICAN NARROWS, Sask. – Seven people, including two youth, have been charged after a northern Saskatchewan teen was killed over the weekend. Hilliard Sewap Jr., 17, was declared dead following a disturbance Saturday at Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation residence.

Marcus Sewap, 19, Cody Drake Custer, 22, and Trevor Charles, 28, have been charged with second-degree murder. They were scheduled to appear in Pelican Narrows provincial court on Tuesday.

Charles is also charged with obstructing a peace officer, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession of stolen property. Custer is also charged with breach of a conditional sentence order.

Warrants have been issued for Robbie Lambert Creed Custer, 20 and Brandon Lee Matt McCallum, 18. Both are charged with second-degree murder.

All five are from Pelican Narrows.

Mounties have also issued warrants for the arrest of two youth. Both are charged with second-degree murder and one youth is also facing a charge of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Their names are not being released under provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Mounties continue to investigate and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at Saskatoon City Hospital.
